Hmmm… Interesting…

The folks at AVP Galaxy have been sent a couple of pictures that appear to show a re-creation of the Space Jockey’s chair from Alien, for use in Prometheus, confirming the/a Jockey’s appearance in some way or other.

You can see the photos below (until Fox get in touch, that is!) and see the original article here.

Hardly a surprise, but Fox have requested that we remove the images. You may still be able to find them online elsewhere.

Damon Lindelof talks a little bit about Prometheus

MTV movies caught up with Prometheus screen writer Damon Lindelof, and he spilled a few more details about his involvement in the project, as well as some of the characters.

How he approached the film:

“Having done ‘Lost’ for six years, I felt this tremendous responsibility because I’m one of the visionaries behind the show, so there’s no safety net below you. When I got the call [from Ridley] I had this tremendous amount of relief and comfort that Ridley Scott is going to be the safety net. What ensued was a series of conversations where I was kind of interviewing Ridley to get a sense of the movie he wanted to make. Once I got a sense of that, then it was really about channeling that idea so that I was realizing his vision, as opposed to imposing my vision on it. That was my perspective. His perspective was more kind and generous in terms of ideas that I brought to the movie. But really everything I was coming up with was just a different spin on what he was saying to me.”

Clarifying Michael Fassbender’s ‘mystery role’:

“He plays a robot. One of the things that evokes the idea of ‘Blade Runner’ is, ‘What does the movie look like from the robot’s point of view?’ If you were to ask him, ‘What do you think about all of this? What’s going on? What do you think about these humans who are around you?,’ wouldn’t it be cool if we found a way for that robot to answer those questions. When you cast a guy like Fassbender, who’s going to bring a lot more to it than [makes clichéd robot movements] — that was me doing the robot, I don’t know if you could tell — it’s not Anthony Daniels. All due respect. He’s phenomenal. But C-P3O…”

On Charlise Theron’s Role and ‘the company’

“Her character’s name is Meredith Vickers and she’s sort of a corporate entity. That’s another one of the familiar things from the ‘Alien’ movies — that there are corporate interests in play. I feel like Charlize brought a new spin on that old variation. It’s a remix …. I don’t think she’s slimy [like Paul Reiser's character in 'Aliens']. She’s not the fast-talking, snake-oil face of the company. By the way, “What company is she a face of?,” I think is a big part of the fun. As we were developing the script, she had some really cool ideas that made it not the suit you’re used to.”

The joys of an ensemble cast:

“I think one of the really cool things about the first ‘Alien,’ if you watch it cold, Ripley is kind in the background like one of the crew members, and you’re like, ‘Skerrit’s [who played Captain Dallas] the hero of the movie,’ and he’s one of the first to go. And then you’re like, ‘It’s [the engineer played by] Harry Dean Stanton.’ And, no, he’s gone… and suddenly Sigourney Weaver, in the last 40 minutes of the movie, is the only one left alive. I think the idea of building a really cool ensemble and again presenting the audience with like, ‘Who’s going to be left standing at the end of this movie? Maybe all of them. Probably not,’ [that's] part of the fun of what we set out to do.”

Updated plot synopsis for Prometheus

We added this to our ‘What is Prometheus‘ page a couple of days ago, but forgot to mention it here.

Fox have released a slightly updated plot synopsis for Prometheus, via the movie’s official Facebook page:

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

So, nothing really new in there, but what’s interesting is that, despite their denials at the time, this synopsis does echo some of the details in the alleged ‘leaked’ one that surfaced online in June. That said, that one did just seem to mix up things that were already known or rumoured, so it’s not surprising that there is some crossover.

Patrick Wilson talks about Prometheus

MTV Movie News recentky caught up with Watchmen star Patrick Wilson, and asked him about his latest role in Prometheus.

While he was obviously unable to give specifics, he was certainly full of praise for the production, and gave a little hint about his character.

“It was an absolute thrill. I was blown away by [the script] and I don’t use that sort of phrase a lot, but I was blown away by it, so excited that I wanted to read it again. I just kept re-reading it, even though I knew what was coming.

“And put it this way, I’ve never done this, I’ve never finished the shooting on a movie, and then on the ride home read the script again. I had no reason to read it, it was not work-oriented, I just really loved it, it’s so cool.

“There is an importance to my character, certainly size [of the role] was not the issue. It’s an exciting, thrilling script, so to be a part of it on any level, I said ‘Yes, just tell me where you want me to be, I will be there.’ It was great. It was nice to come in just as they were finishing shooting, just to play a little bit.

“As you can imagine, [the film] is very wonderfully exiting, and yet so complicated and layered, which to me is what science fiction is all about, when it operates on many, many levels.”

Sigourney Weaver talks (but not a lot) about Prometheus

Sigourney Weaver is currently doing the publicity rounds for Twilight star Taylor Lautner’s breakout movie Abduction, and with the buzz around Prometheus, it’s not surprise that she’s being asked about what she knows of Ridley Scott’s return the franchise that made her a star. It’s also not surprising that whatever she does know, she’s not saying too much!

Weaver and Scott have both dropped hints over the years that if either of them did another instalment, they would go back to explore the origins of the creature, and Weaver seems pleased that Prometheus will be taking that route.

Hollywood Outbreak asked the questions:

“I actually talked to Ridley about this very idea, and I’m delighted he’s doing it. I feel it’s in good hands. It’s a wonderful franchise and if they can invigorate the creature, it could have another life.

… I have not read that script, but what’s really interesting to me is that in Alien … you encounter what we called the Space Jockey, this strange creature with the elephant face, the eggs were in its ship, so where did eggs come from? So its like kind of following that storyline with I hope another great ensemble.”

Michael Fassbender talks about Prometheus & working with Ridley Scott

During an interview on the Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo film program on BBC Radio 5 Live, to publicise his appearance in the latest adaptation of Jane Eyre, Michael Fassbender was asked about Prometheus.

Unsurprisingly he said he was sworn to secrecy, but he did offer this (edited to remove ‘ums’, ‘ahs’ and ‘yknows’):

“Usually nowadays a lot of things are done in greenscreen when you are dealing with these kind of films, and anything of the fantastical nature, whereas these sets that I walked onto, I’ve never seen anything like it and probably never will again.

The attention to detail of Mr Scott is outstanding. I mean, he’s just a master craftsman. His energy on set is just phenominal, and his attention to detail… And we had a lot of fun doing it, and I think he had a lot of fun. I don’t think viewers are gonna be disappointed, it’s gonna be quite something I think.”

Of course he’s hardly going to say it’ll be rubbish, but within the limitations of what he’s allowed to say he does sound pretty genuine. It’s good to see that there’s a reliance on practical sets and effects, and it does seem that Scott is energised by his return to the world he helped create.

More Prometheus vehicles and hardware revealed

The chaps at Alien Prequel News have scored a couple of exclusive photos showing a vehicle and set piece from Prometheus.

Below you can see some kind of truck, that could be glimpsed in the leaked screengrabs from the Comic-Con reel, part of a so-called ‘lifter’ machine, as seen on the edge of the only official still so far released, and another photo of the previously seen tunnel sets.

UPDATE – First official Prometheus poster leaked? (Nope!)

UPDATE – it seems that Scriptflags was hoodwinked; this actually a piece of fan made art. And a nice one at that. Hopefully the genuine article will be as atmospheric!

There have been no shortage of fan-made posters for Prometheus, but the fine folks st ScriptFlags have been sent what could well be the first legit one.

The fact it focusses on the ‘canisters’ seen in some leaked set photos as Comic-Con reel screen grabs does lend it some credibility. What do you think?

Rafe Spall talks a bit more about Prometheus

After possibly spoiling his character’s fate with an interview with the Guardian, Rafe Spall has given the Independant a little nugget about his Prometheus character, as well as an indication of the tight security surrounding the production

I play a scientist… I got given an e-mail about what I’m allowed to say about this and what I’m. not allowed to say, but I haven’t. read it yet so I’d better be careful.
