Noomi Rapace talks Prometheus 2 – active script development underway!

Noomi RapaceExcuse us while we when just sweep away the tumbleweeds and cobwebs.

Right, where were we? Oh yes… after a deafening silence from the world of Prometheus, Noomi Rapace has revealed in an interview with The Playlist that she has already met with Ridley Scott to work on the story for a sequel.

While publicising her new movie Dead Man Down, Rapace brought us up to date on how develpment is going:

“They’re working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It’s just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.

“… it’s interesting because people, most people I’ve talked to who see the movie, see things that are quite different. Some people who see the movie many times and discover new things. There are all these religious aspects and there are very interesting conversations. And for me, if we do a second one, there are a lot of things to explore in there and to continue. I would love to do it.”

It’s certainly good to know that, despite committing himself to a Blade Runner sequel, Scott is still working on bringing us Prometheus 2. Whether he’ll find the time to direct it himself is another matter…

Noomi Rapace talks a bit about Prometheus

After coming to world-wide attention as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace is quickly solidifying her status as the new action/adventure leading lady, starting soon with the soon-to-be-released Sherlock Holmes 2: Game of Shadows.

It was while doing the publicity rounds for that film that Collider spoke to Rapace about her role as Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus:

“It’s kind of crazy. I was doing ADR two weeks ago, in London, and it looks fantastic. I remember when I came into some of the sets, it just blew me away. It took my breath away, with the way they created it. We didn’t have green screen. I think we had it twice. They built everything. It felt like magic. It’s stunning. What’s so fantastic, with Ridley [Scott], is that he’s such an artist and he creates really big, amazing shots, but it’s still brutally beautiful, at the same time. I can’t wait to see it!

I feel like my character is the heart in the movie. You follow her, and she changes. In the beginning, she’s a believer. She believes in God and she has a very strong faith. She is a scientist and an archaeologist. She’s on this mission, and she’s full of hope. In the middle of the movie, things happen and she changes into more of a warrior. And in the end, she’s such a survivor. It was really a quite intense and dramatic journey for me to go through, and to do with Ridley and the other actors.

But, when we were finished and we wrapped in Iceland, I remember that it was almost like I came back to Earth because I’d been on this spaceship and I’d been out on this weird planet. It’s always quite fascinating, when I look back at things and I realize how deep into it I actually was. It’s almost like I’m occupied by something.

It’s good to see mention of the limited amount of greenscreen work, presumably for views of spacethrough windows, and set extensions; we’ve seen from various leaked photos how much has been built for real.

With the film’s release now just 6 months away, hopefully we’ll get to see more official news, and, who knows, maybe an official trailer before Christmas?

Some rumoured locations for Prometheus

Ain’t It Cool News have been sent some interesting news that was reported this week in Scotland, regarding some possible location filming spots for Prometheus.

According to AICN reader James, here’s what one local paper had to say:

“ALIENS are to invade the Highlands – after secret plans were hatched to film a prequel to the sci-fiblockbuster trilogy (sic) in Scotland.

Location scouts for the long-awaited movie, with original Alien director Ridley Scott in charge, have already visited Inverness and Fort William.

All cast members had to sign secrecy clauses and were made to read the script in Ridley Scott’s Hollywood office. And when Kate Dickie, 39, needed to see the screenplay in Glasgow a security courier flew to Scotland and stood guard over her for two hours.

But the cat was let out of the bag when the film-makers asked about accommodation in Inverness and surrounding towns during August.

They are looking for rooms to sleep a cast and crew of at least 150 people.

While other mountainous parts of Europe have also been considered, the Scottish Highlands backdrop is favoured because it fits the new film’s central theme of “grand mythology and universe” in which this original story takes place.

Mediacom, whose film travel and accommodation office is based at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, would confirm only that a “large feature film” was due to shoot in the Highlands from early August until September, then elsewhere in Europe in October and November.”

Meanwhile, reader ‘William Wallace’ sent a couple of photos of the supposed locations that really speak for themselves…

Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie join Prometheus

The Daily Mail Online is reporting that 3 new actors have joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

Idris Elba’s star is rapidly rising, including a role in this summer’s Thor, Sean Harris has made a name for himself in a range of British TV dramas and independant films, includng the Red Riding trilogy, Ashes to Ashes and Harry Brown, while Kate Dickie is best known in the UK for Red Road.

The article also quotes Scott as giving a few more snippets of information on the film:

“‘I was insistent that the script not leak onto the internet, where it gets dissected out of context, which spoils it for everyone…It’s the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It’s not a small film”

A bit more clarification on the Prometheus/Alien connection

With all the rumours flying around, Brendan Connelly at Bleeding Cool got on the phone to a source within the Prometheus camp who claims to know a bit more about what’s going down, specifically providing some clarification to the possible connection between Alien and Prometheus, and director Ridley Scott’s cryptic ‘Alien DNA’ comment.

The basic gist is that we’ll see further exploration of the concept established between Alien and Alien 3 that the creature takes on some characteristics of its host – humanoid in the first 2 films, and more dog-like (or ox-like, depending on which version you’ve seen) in Alien 3. It seems on this film, we will see the result of the creature’s gestation in another species – perhaps the Space Jockey will become a victim?

That said, in relation to recent reports of an 8 foot animatronic Space Jockey, the source says:

“there’s nothing we’re calling a space jockey here”

Connelly leaps to the same unfounded but understandable conclusion as we did that the Space Jockey will be the ‘Engineer’ character mentioned in character breakdowns based on the old Alien prequel script.

You can read the full article, which also includes bits on the film’s title and the nature of the planet where much of the action is supposed to take place, here. While nothing major is given away definatively, there are certainly some exciting conclusions that could be drawn.
