Predators – Casting finally confirmed

After some weeks of speculation, the main cast has been confirmed.

Heading up the team is Oscar winner Adrien Brody, who will be joined by Alice Braga, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Louiz Ozawa and the previously rumoured Danny Trejo and Walton Goggins, according to Variety.

Meanwhile, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Friday The 13th star Derek ‘Jason Vorhees’ Mears is also up for a role, while The Holloywood Reporter says that Spider-Man 3 star Topher Grace is in negotiations to join the cast.

As far as the roles go, according to reports Brody is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men. Grace would play an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.

Braga is the tough female killer. Ali is a man not afraid to die, Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent.

Trejo is a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.

Well, the wait was definately worth it – this sounds like a great cast. It will be exciting to see some shots of the cast in character.

Predators – Walton Goggins joins the cast?

Coming Soon is reporting that ‘The Shield’ star Walton Goggins has joined the cast of Predators.

There’s no indication yet of the part he might be playing, but once it’s confirmed we’ll let you know.

Directed by Nimrod Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez, Predators is scheduled for release in July 2010.

Predators – Script review and Danny Trejo casting update

Latino Review have posted their review of a recent script revision for Predators.

They also mention that further to previous reports, Danny Trejo will be playing a character called ‘Cuchillo’.

Predators – Danny Trejo joins the cast?

While chatting with Puch Drunk Critics, who were trying to get info out of him about the upcoming Machete, actor Danny Trejo mentioned that “we’re doing Predators next”.

Now, this could be the “Royal We”, i.e., Troublemaker Studios in general, or it could be an indication that Trejo himself has a role. As one of Rodriguez’s Click here to see the interview for yourself.

With filming due to start this week, some confirmed casting news should appear soon.

Predators – Howard Berger talks effects

It’s been a quiet couple of weeks in terms of news from the Predators camp, but this week Howard Berger of KNB has spoken to Moviehole about his company’s work on Predators.

we wanted to have the Predator look as it did in the original film. We went back and looked at the original. I actually worked in the shop with Stan Winston on the first film. It was great to be able to go back to the series having not been involved in any of the sequels, and it was also great to be able to make sure we built them as Stan Winston did…

They look really fantastic. There’s a whole bunch of cool [Predator's] in the film, and everyone’s going to be very happy that we’ve been very faithful to the Stan Winston designs. It’s out next year. It’s shooting very soon.

Predators – Budget confirmed?

Scoop site Coming Attractions has reported that the budget for Predators is set at $40m.

While this may seem low by Hollywood standards, it’s worth remembering that producer Robert Rodriguez is the master of big-look-on-a-small-budget film making, and by keeping the bulk of the production based at his own Troublemaker Studios, he and director Nimrod Antal will be assured of getting the most from every penny.

Predators – Location shooting in Hawaii?

Tim Ryan’s Reel Hawaii is reporting that location scouts for Predators have been paying visits to the island with a view to shooting the film’s jungle scenes there.

The production would film for 18 days with an October start if the Hawaii portion is a go. That decision is expected to be made very soon…Some Hawaii production execs are being contacted about availability…

Hawaii has proven itself to be a great location destination for Hollywood, most famously with TV drama Lost. Tim’s site will be a great source of information if Rodriguez and co set up camp there.

Predators – KNB onboard for creature effects

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that KNB has joined the Predators roadshow, and will be providing physical creature and make-up effects.

KNB and producer Robert Rodriguez have a long history, having worked together previousl on From Dusk Till Dawn and Sin City, while KNB co-founders Greg Nicotero and Howerd Berger both worked under Stan Winston on the 1987 original.

This is great news – while there’s bound to be plenty of CGI on show, it’s good to see that the production will still be using plenty of practical effects, and KNB are one of the best in the business.

Predators – Casting underway

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the call has gone out for “Black”, “Asian”, “Russian” and “Latino” actors to play the roles of marines in Predators, which begins filming at the end of September.

So, pretty vague at the moment, but ss soon as we hear more we’ll update.

Production Weekly has reported that Predators is scheduled to begin principle photography with director Nimrod Antal on September 28th at producer Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios.

The film, written by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, is due to be released on July 7th 2010
